NEW YORK-  Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that Empire AI campus partnerships will link SUNY’s university centers with colleges across the state to expand artificial intelligence research, education, and workforce development.

The initiative will connect SUNY’s four university centers, Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, and Stony Brook, with university colleges, technology colleges, and community colleges.  The partnerships will give students and faculty increased access to research opportunities, professional development, microcredential courses, and training focused on the effective and ethical use of AI.

At the center of the effort is the Empire AI supercomputer, housed at the University at Buffalo, which will support advanced research and learning across the SUNY system.

“Through Empire AI, New York is ensuring the power of AI is harnessed responsibly,” Hochul said in a statement.  “By bringing together SUNY institutions through these campus partnerships, we are furthering the use of AI for the public good and shaping a brighter future for all New Yorkers.”

SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. said the initiative places New York at the forefront of AI innovation while expanding access for students statewide.

“SUNY is proud to leverage the largest comprehensive system of public higher education in the country to ensure more students can drive research and move innovation forward,” King said, thanking Hochul for her continued investment in AI education.
