President Donald Trump on Sunday announced the release of a new video highlighting his message for The Story of America, an educational series produced by Hillsdale College to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The White House released the video as part of a broader initiative marking the nation’s semiquincentennial, with Trump describing the project as an effort to rekindle public appreciation for American history and the ideals of the country’s founding. The video was made public through a new video shared by the administration.

“The spirit of 1776 has carried our flag to places and heights that our Founding Fathers could never have dreamed,” Trump said in remarks delivered from the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office. He cited the nation’s westward expansion, scientific and industrial achievements, military victories, and the Apollo moon landing as milestones rooted in the legacy of the American Revolution.

“Americans forged into the frontier and blazed across the great plains. We tamed the Wild West, we pushed the boundaries of scientific discovery. We enlightened the world with electricity and commerce. We defeated tyrants and vanquished dictators, and we planted the American flag on the moon,” Trump said. “We owe it all to the patriots and heroes of 1776.”

The announcement comes amid broader efforts by the administration to reshape federal education policy. Trump has repeatedly argued that public education has shifted away from teaching foundational academic skills and a shared national history, and toward ideological initiatives that he and his allies describe as “woke.” The White House has linked the new video series to its wider campaign to overhaul education, including efforts by the Trump administration to roll back diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

Standardized testing data have shown persistent academic challenges in many large urban school districts. National Assessment of Educational Progress results indicate a deterioration of proficiency in core subjects such as reading and math in recent years. District-level data compiled by the NAEP place cities including Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago, Detroit, and Boston ranking at the bottom in student performance, with large shares of students performing below grade level.

The administration has also pointed to developments in higher education. Universities such as Harvard, Columbia, and the University of Pennsylvania have been cited by administration allies as leading examples of what they describe as the spread of woke ideology on college campuses. Critics argue those institutions have prioritized expansive DEI bureaucracies over academic merit and free inquiry.

Recent controversies involving elite universities, including leadership scandals and congressional hearings that administration officials said downplayed threats to Jewish students, have been cited by the White House as justification for policy intervention.

In response, the administration has issued executive actions intended to dismantle DEI programs at institutions receiving federal funding and has imposed funding restrictions and investigations on universities it says are not in compliance. It has also promoted the America 250 Civics Education Coalition, partnering with organizations such as Hillsdale College and Turning Point USA to provide grants supporting curricula centered on American history and founding ideals.

Complementing those measures, the administration has expanded taxes on the largest university endowments, raising rates on the wealthiest institutions in an effort the White House says is designed to redirect resources away from ideological programming.

In the video announcement, Trump said the Story of America series includes contributions from Cabinet officials, Hillsdale College faculty, and other public figures. He named Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Hillsdale President Dr. Larry Arnn, author Eric Metaxas, and broadcaster Brian Kilmeade among those involved.

The episodes trace American history from the opening battles at Lexington and Concord through the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the formation of the United States. Fourteen episodes have already been released, with additional installments planned.

“We’re excited to retell one of the greatest tales in the history of mankind,” Trump said. He closed the video with a call for public participation in the upcoming anniversary events, saying, “Join us in honoring this incredible history, and together we will give America the greatest birthday celebration our country has ever seen.”
