MID-HUDSON – The sounds of snow blowers, plows and shovels permeated the air throughout the Hudson Valley Monday as the removal of as much as two feet inches of snow got underway.
Municipal crews working around the clock since Sunday had most roads cleared by noon time but driveways, sidewalks and paths were packed solid with the frozen precipitation.
Since schools were closed Monday children manning shovels made extra money by assisting the elderly with driveway and stoop shoveling.
Municipal officials reminded residents to refrain from shoveling, plowing or blowing snow onto roads and streets already cleared by municipal crews.
Emergency responders were kept busy on Monday as well answering alarms for people falling on slippery sidewalks and driveways.
County 911 centers dispatched ambulances to calls throughout the day.
Police have reminded residents since the mercury remains in the single digits, many secondary and tertiary roads are also slick with caution being urged.
Due to the slippery conditions, some public schools in the region are operating either on a delayed opening today or on remote learning.
