GOSHEN – Orange County is renewing its sales tax sharing agreement with its three cities – Middletown, Newburgh and Port Jervis.
Under the plan, the county retains 73.6 percent of sales tax receipts with 26.4 percent shared among the cities, towns and villages.
Deputy County Executive Harry Porr said the distribution formula is based on the 2020 census.
“The contract is usually a three-year deal, and it expires next month,” he said. The cities of Newburgh and Middletown have approved the deal with Port Jervis is expected to give its nod this week.
The new pact will run from March 1, 2026 through February 28, 2029.
