The general coordinator of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (Unpacu), José Daniel Ferrer, told the EFE news agency on Tuesday that, in the Cuban case, the Trump Administration could force a ‘transition’, where the regime “has no other option, just as Delcy Rodríguez has no other option, than to move according to the dictates of the United States.”
The exiled opposition leader’s statements were made on Monday, during the virtual presentation of the First Comprehensive Report on Digital Surveillance in Cuba by the NGO Prisoners Defenders (PD).
According to Ferrer, Washington could apply to the island a “formula similar to that of Venezuela”.
However, Ferrer does not consider this possible operation as the first option.
“We Cubans will be able to lead the change without the need for the United States to bring it about. But, if that doesn’t happen, if I have to choose between the current Cuba (…) and a minimally invasive surgical intervention to remove that tyranny from power (…) then I’ll go for the second option,” the former political prisoner added.
Regarding the situation in Venezuela and the appointment of Rodríguez as interim president, Ferrer believes that Washington’s plan will “lead to the return of democracy to Venezuela.”
In the early hours of January 3, elite special forces, including the U.S. Army’s Delta Force, carried out the operation that ended with the capture of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
Both are already in New York to be prosecuted for drug trafficking and terrorism offenses.
At the same time, as a result of the extraction, 32 Cuban military personnel, who belonged to the dictator’s security detail in Caracas, died. @ADNCuba
