City of Newburgh secures $10 million state grant to improve infrastructure along Liberty Street

NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh has been granted $10 million from the state to advance a green infrastructure and environmental resiliency projects along Liberty Street aimed at strengthening the city’s sewer and stormwater systems while protecting the Hudson River.

The award jumpstarts the next phase of Newburgh’s long term control plan which is the city’s multi-year clean water initiative.

The grant will help fund the 431 million Liberty Street sewer separation project between Ann and Renwick streets, a project designed to keep stormwater out of the combined sewer system during heavy rain events.

The Liberty Street project will incorporate green infrastructure that manages stormwater closer to where it falls, reducing localized flooding, and strengthening the city’s natural systems.
