Not every hero is afforded the luxury of a solo spotlight—but one of the most recognizable figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may not be waiting for an invitation. Instead, he appears to be making a case of his own. More Star-Lord, anyone?
The Ragtag Crew That Conquered the Box Office
The years leading up to the pandemic can fairly be described as the modern golden era of the superhero film. While the genre never truly fell out of favor, its cultural dominance became unmistakable. One of the most unexpected successes of that era was “Guardians of the Galaxy,” a space-faring ensemble that elevated lesser-known Marvel characters—Groot, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, and Star-Lord—into household names. As IMDb succinctly describes it, the film follows
“a group of intergalactic criminals [who] must pull together to stop a fanatical warrior with plans to purge the universe.”
Against all odds, they did set out to do just that, and audiences were hooked.
Unexpected Marvel
The film’s success was the result of several converging factors: humor, heart, strong performances, and a chemistry that felt effortless. One movie was not enough, and anticipation for the Guardians’ return quickly followed. By the time the third installment arrived, however, the narrative carried added emotional weight. Gamora’s absence loomed large, and fans were also confronting the end of the road for the franchise itself.
Some Goodbyes Are Hard but Necessary
As reported by People, filming for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” wrapped in May 2022, and director James Gunn confirmed that after eight years, the third film would mark the final chapter of the Guardians saga. For many, it was a bittersweet farewell. Cast member Dave Bautista publicly expressed relief at closing that chapter of his life, while Gunn himself reflected on the challenge of ending a trilogy with integrity.
“I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve,” he said, acknowledging the high bar for third installments.
Not everyone, however, seemed quite ready to let go.

Chris Pratt, who brought Star-Lord to life, has expressed interest in returning to the character—potentially in a project centered solely on him. According to ComingSoon.net, when asked about revisiting a specific role, Pratt responded,
“We made a promise with “Guardians of the Galaxy” that Star-Lord would return. I think I would really love to make good on that promise.”
Pratt went on, with laughter, to float hypothetical ideas about what such a story might entail, suggesting the tone was at least partially playful. Still, the notion does not feel entirely far-fetched. Star-Lord’s unresolved relationship with his father—explored most prominently in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2″—offers narrative threads that could be revisited. The larger question is whether Marvel, now carefully recalibrating its long-term strategy, would make space for a standalone feature of this nature—and whether audiences would return for it.
More Star Lord Anyone?
That answer is difficult to predict. Fans often move forward once a story feels complete, unless a new chapter connects directly to something they are already anticipating. Whether Pratt’s comments were lighthearted or indicative of genuine interest, one thing remains clear: Star-Lord’s journey resonated, and the time spent with the Guardians was a memorable ride from the moment the book was opened.
Long live the Guardians of the Galaxy.
