MID-HUDSON – A snowstorm that came in two waves on Saturday, dropping accumulations between three and six inches of wet snow, created hazardous road conditions for motorists. A multitude of vehicles that had slid off the roadway, and others stuck in the middle of the road, kept tow operators busy while municipal plow operators were out trying to keep the roads clear.
One motorist attempted to navigate the hill on Fulton Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie, near Marist University housing, on Saturday, becoming stuck sideways and blocking both lanes of travel.
While most motorists remained in their vehicles, one Good Samaritan assisted the young woman for approximately five minutes, trying to get her vehicle pointed back down the hill as traffic backed up to Route 9. Once out of the way, several other cars that had been parked on Fulton Street begun having difficulty making their way up the hill, with several giving up and turning right on Fairview Avenue, hoping for better conditions.
Most main thoroughfares in the region were cleared by Saturday evening, but motorists were urged to proceed with caution as the temperature remained below freezing.
Today (Sunday) brings the possibility of additional snow for the Poughkeepsie area, with an additional one to two inches likely.
