It's 1466. After the 13 Years War against the Poles and the Prussian League, the Teutonic Order is on its last legs. The Second Treaty of Thorn strips the Order of their western territories, that will be known as Royal Prussia.
As a last resort, the Order elects Albert of Hohenzollern as grand master. But Albert of Prussia converts to Lutheranism and secularizes the Order's lands, that will be known as Ducal Prussia.
Soon the Hohenzollern muscle in and obtain the Duchy, adding it to their existing possessions of Brandenburg. Brandenburg-Prussia is devastated by the 30 Years War, causing the Hohenzollern to become increasingly militaristic. Frederick William is elevated to the rank of King of Prussia. Frederick the Great continues his expansionist policy, elevating the Kingdom of Prussia to a great power.
