ARLINGTON, Va. (NEWSnet/AP) — A massive explosion erupted Monday night at a duplex in a Washington D.C. suburb where police were investigating reports of shots fired.
It was unclear what happened to the suspect who was inside the home when it was leveled by the explosion, Arlington County, Virginia, police spokesperson Ashley Savage said. Three officers at the scene had minor injuries, none needed immediate hospital car, a news release said.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said federal agents and federal fire investigators were at the scene and assisting in the investigation.

Officers went to the home at about 4:45 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired at a residence on North Burlington Street. They later determined the shots came from a flare gun, Savage said.
While police investigated, they obtained a search warrant for the home.
When police later attempted to serve the warrant the suspect fired several rounds inside the home. The explosion occurred just before 8:30 p.m., shooting flames and debris into the air police said. The fire department reported the fire was under control by about 10:40 p.m.
Arlington is located across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. The explosion occurred in Bluemont, a neighborhood in north Arlington where many of the homes are duplexes.
