My life as a Mandarin Chinese teacher is both meaningful and rewarding. Each day, I have the opportunity to share the beauty of the Chinese language and traditional culture with my students, helping them discover a new way to communicate and connect with the world. Watching their progress—from mastering simple greetings to holding conversations and writing essays, —fills me with pride and joy. Teaching Mandarin is not just about language; it’s about inspiring curiosity, patience, kindness and diligence.

My very first group of Chinese language students—sixth graders when I began teaching them—are now in college! One is studying medicine at Brown University, another is pursuing engineering at RPI, one attends Siena College, and two are in New York City—one majoring in graphic design and the other in criminal justice. Watching them grow into such kind, capable young adults has been an incredible joy and one of the most rewarding parts of being a teacher.
