After just one week of successful "guestship" by Ukrainian drones in occupied Crimea, Russia hasn't rushed to save "its" citizens, but has instead begun looking for "the culprits" and feigning that "everything is under control."
Following the fuel crisis in Crimea, the energy crisis is gaining momentum – power outages on the peninsula have increased significantly. The effects of Ukrainian strikes on military and energy infrastructure continue to be felt in Russian-occupied Crimea . Power outages have been imposed in Sevastopol, fuel sales to residents have been restricted throughout the peninsula, and children's summer camps have been temporarily closed, CNN reports .
According to the Kremlin-appointed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, electricity consumption restrictions are in effect in the city.
"Restrictions have been introduced throughout the city," he said, calling on residents to reduce the load on the power grid. At the same time, the commander of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Brovdi, reported that Ukrainian drones attacked Sevastopol's main electrical substation seven times. The situation also affected fuel supplies. The Russian-controlled Crimean administration announced that fuel would temporarily be sold only to government agencies.
A Sevastopol resident told reporters that most gas stations are already out of gas:
"There's no gas at the gas stations, but public transportation is still running. I managed to buy gasoline while it was still on sale, but at a significantly higher price."
Residents of the peninsula are complaining en masse on social media about the consequences of the restrictions. Taxi driver Alexander contacted the head of the occupation administration, Sergei Aksyonov, asking how he can now support his family.
"There simply won't be money to pay off loans – and soon we won't have anything to eat, or even the opportunity to buy food," he wrote.
Entrepreneur Diana noted that her company, which supplies chilled poultry, cannot operate without diesel fuel.
"Our products are perishable. We supply them to retail chains and markets throughout the peninsula," she wrote.
Another Crimean resident, Olesya, reported a transport collapse.
"There's simply no room for more passengers. Everyone needs to get to work," she noted. Amid intensifying Ukrainian attacks, occupation authorities also suspended all children's summer camps. Aksyonov announced that they would remain closed until at least September 1.
Local residents also report a sharp increase in air raid sirens and drone flights. One Sevastopol resident says: "The city has become more dangerous."
Radio Liberty reported that in early June, Moscow-controlled Crimean authorities announced the recuperation of hundreds of thousands of children in the region – both local and from Russia and the occupied Ukrainian territories.
"Since the beginning of the year, officials have spent millions of rubles on purchasing departmental vouchers for children to Crimea, ignoring the fact that the region is a frontline area where attacks on Russian military facilities are regularly recorded," the article states. However, due to increased attacks by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on Russian logistics, the organized children's vacation in Crimea was urgently curtailed.
The reception and placement of children in Crimean institutions continued in June, despite the Ukrainian Defense Forces' systematic attacks on Russian logistics along its "land corridor" to Crimea and on the peninsula itself.
"All this time, Russian departmental vouchers continued to be sold – children were placed in Crimean sanatoriums and camps," the publication notes. However, on June 22, the Russian head of occupied Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, announced the "suspension" of organized children's recreation in the region until September 1. It was noted that children were among the first to be evacuated en masse from the Artek children's center. Aksyonov's decree caught some children en route to Artek, so their parents had to urgently take them home.
