This lively piece transports us to rustic southern China, where azure waters flow leisurely past terraced hills. In this quiet setting, we find a village of the Hmong people. Also known as the Miao, they now live throughout Southeast Asia and around the world. But in this remote village of China, where they have resided for many centuries, it is time for their traditional ethnic dance. Decked in silver jewelry, young ladies spring to a percussive beat, accompanied by peals of jingling charms. The entire festive and buoyant atmosphere is delightfully captured in this fun encore piece.
