In the upcoming book “Amateur Hour: Kamala Harris in the White House,” author and political journalist Charlie Spiering delves into the alleged challenges Vice President Kamala Harris faces within President Joe Biden’s administration. According to Spiering, who has a background with the Washington Examiner and Breitbart, Harris is perceived as ineffective in her role and is excluded from major decisions and inner circles.

The book, set for release on January 23 and published by Simon & Schuster’s Threshold Editions, portrays a strained relationship between Harris and the first family. Notably, the Bidens have not hosted Harris and her husband for a family dinner, nor has President Biden kept his promise of weekly lunches with his Vice President. This lack of personal engagement reflects a broader sense of disconnect.

Spiering suggests that top White House aides, including press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, have avoided direct interaction with Harris due to her management style. Despite three separate efforts to bolster her standing, Harris remains isolated, with her ability to support the president’s agenda being questioned.

The author also touches upon Harris’s early political career, her tenure as San Francisco’s District Attorney, and her time as a U.S. Senator. However, her apparent lack of credibility in the Senate, due to her focus on a presidential bid, and her limited impact in aiding Biden’s legislative agenda are highlighted as significant shortcomings.

Spiering argues that while some within the administration would prefer to replace Harris, doing so could jeopardize Biden’s reelection chances. Although Harris has not been successful in handling assignments like immigration reform and gun control, she has, in the author’s view, not directly harmed Biden’s presidency.

The book also addresses the complexity of Harris’s role as the first woman of color to serve as Vice President. Despite Biden’s initial intentions to make Harris a full partner, she has been largely sidelined in the administration. The lack of a personal or professional bond between Biden and Harris is underscored by the absence of shared dinners or close interactions.

“Amateur Hour” paints a picture of a Vice President struggling to find her footing in an administration that has seemingly moved on without her, failing to integrate her into its core team or decision-making processes.
