Contemporary Styling Meets Tradition in the Flexform Lauren Folding Chair

Contemporary Styling Meets Tradition in the Flexform Lauren Folding Chair

Timeless craftsmanship is reimagined through a contemporary lens in the latest addition to the Flexform 2024 collection, courtesy of Italian designer Antonio Citterio.

Set to be officially unveiled at Milan Design Week in April, the Lauren folding small armchair is a testament to the designer’s ethos: deceptively simple in its clean, modern lines, yet meticulously thought out and eloquently executed.

In a nod to tradition, the finely crafted piece draws on the time-honed art of Italian cabinet-making. The chair’s structure is made of hand-turned, finished wood for a warm, solid feel, while a sleek metal frame upholstered in rich cowhide outlines the seat and armrests, conveying a luxe yet laid-back sensibility with an organic edge.

Highly skilled artisans were involved throughout the crafting process, including custom-designing all of the small metal parts.

“This is an outdoor piece that has been reinterpreted for the indoors, thanks to the use of cowhide,” Citterio says. “The essence of the Lauren armchair is travel—[it’s] a nomadic object that embodies the appeal of exploration, moving from place to place. [It’s] a lightweight, timeless structure.”

Whether on its own or paired with other Flexform pieces, the Lauren folding chair is a strong presence in any space with its distinctive character, embodying the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and craft.
