1 person died and 14 were injured after a stolen 18-wheeler intentionally crashed into a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) office, an officer said.

DPS Regional Director Gerald Brown identified the suspect as 42-year-old Clenard Parker in a news conference Friday afternoon.

Parker was being chased by a police officer when he crashed the truck into the DPS office located in the rural town of Brenham, about 75 miles west of Houston, The Epoch Times reported.

Parker has been arrested.

The vehicle ran into the Brenham DPS Office at about 10:41 a.m., Southeast Texas Region of DPS said.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.

Three people were airlifted with critical injuries and three others were transported in serious condition, according to a statement by Texas State Sen. Lois Kolkhorst, who represents the area.

No DPS staff suffered serious injuries and one staffer was trapped “for a period of time” in the building, Kolkhorst said.

“This deliberate, heinous act is a reminder of the dangerous work done by our law enforcement and licensing agencies that work to provide public safety and services,” read her statement.
