The Adventures of Tartu

The Adventures of Tartu
In 1940, Captain Terence Stevenson of the British Army's bomb disposal unit in London is tasked with defusing bombs. Despite lacking spy experience, his background as a chemical engineer and fluency in Romanian and German lead his superiors to assign him a mission in Nazi-occupied territory. The Nazis are close to perfecting a new poisonous gas for chemical warfare, and Stevenson must infiltrate a gas plant near Pilsen in occupied Czechoslovakia to steal the formula and destroy the plant. He assumes the identity of Jan Tartu, a chemical engineer from the Romanian Iron Guard, who has been killed unbeknownst to the Nazis. Stevenson needs the help of the Czech underground and is given a contact, but must improvise when the contact is arrested. He must discern whom to trust among those he lives with: Anna and Pavla Palacek, the house owner and her daughter; Otto Vogel, a Nazi-assigned inspector; and Marushka Lanova, a young woman who manipulates Nazi officers like Vogel. Meanwhile, those working for the Allies must determine if "Tartu" is truly on their side.
