ICE Arrests 33,000 Illegal Aliens Nationwide Since Trump Took Office

During a media briefing on Wednesday, ICE officials confirmed that from January 20 to March 10, agents had arrested approximately 33,000 illegal aliens—a figure that surpasses the 33,000 at-large arrests made in Fiscal Year 2024 under former President Joe Biden.

These arrests, conducted over less than two months, also outpaced the total number of criminal illegal aliens arrested in FY 2024, when just 32,000 were taken into custody.

Among those apprehended, more than 1,000 were identified as suspected gang members, exceeding the 483 gang-related arrests recorded in the same time period last year. Additionally, 39 of those arrested were suspected terrorists.

ICE officials noted that the arrests were made through the 287(g) program, which allows local law enforcement agencies to cooperate with ICE in detaining criminal illegal aliens, as well as at-large arrests and the agency’s Criminal Alien Program.

According to ICE leadership, from January 20 through February 21 alone, more than 20,000 illegal aliens had already been detained, reflecting the intensified enforcement efforts under the Trump administration.

Despite this increase in enforcement, officials warned of critical detention space shortages. Congress has allocated funding for approximately 47,000 ICE detention beds, but the agency has already reached its maximum capacity.

“We are working with Congress to get more beds,” a senior ICE official stated, emphasizing the need for additional funding to expand detention space and prevent the release of detained individuals due to capacity constraints.

“Going forward, you’re going to see the bed space increase and releases go by the wayside,” the official added.

As of now, ICE has not disclosed the total number of deportations since President Trump assumed office, but officials emphasized that removals are occurring at an accelerated rate and will continue to rise as enforcement measures expand.
